2018-2020 Trips
GRADE 9 GEOGRAPHY - WALK TORONTO
Students in the Grade 9 Geography classes spent a day in Toronto exploring the urban landscape. Highlights of the excursion included: Kennsington Market, Parkdale, and Chinatown. Students experienced first hand the differences of the urban landscape, the diversity of Toronto communities, architecture and infrastructure compared to their own experiences of living in Orillia and surrounding areas.
GRADE 10 HISTORY - SIMCOE COUNTY MUSEUM
Students in Mrs. Young's and Mr. Joy's history class enjoyed a day at the Simcoe County Museum learning about WWI. Students became soldiers and nurses and underwent "extensive" training the in field. Students were able to put themselves "in the shoes" of those that served and learned about the connections from our region and their role in WWI.
GRADE 10 HISTORY - REMEMBRANCE DAY AT THE LIBRARY
History students joined with many schools across Orillia to participate in an afternoon celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Armistice. We were treated to a wonderful presentation at the Opera House in which hometown war stories were shared. Students then had the opportunity to visit the exhibits set up at the library and participate in interactive workshops. #OSSRemembers
LAW - BARRIE COURT HOUSE
The OSS Law classed traveled to the Barrie Courthouse to observe what a day in court is like. They got to see first hand what a trial looks like and had an extensive tour of the courthouse. Some lucky students even found themselves "in jail".
JUNO BEACH 75th ANNIVERSARY TRIP
In June 2019, 47 students and 5 staff embarked on a trip of a lifetime. Students traveled to Italy, France and Belgium with the main focus being to attend the 75th Anniversary of D-Day ceremony at Juno Beach, France. The students walked in the path of great Emperors, enjoyed delicious pizza and pasta, and walked "with happiness" throughout Italy. A highlight was seeing the newly christened "piazza" in Ortona dedicated to the Canadians. In France students took in Pointe du Hoc, walked the beaches at Juno and stood and reflected on the sacrifices had at Vimy Ridge. We finished the tour by exploring Ypres and Brussels. Students loved their Belgium chocolate. The next European adventure for the CWS department will be in March 2021 where students will travel to Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Budapest and Saltzberg. The focus of this trip will be a look at WWII through the eyes of Central Europe with a monumental visit to Auschwitz.
